The Bombay sorter is a system used in the cargo industry where shipments are manually fed into the sorter by an operator. The barcode information on the shipment label is automatically read in the barcode reading tunnel and sorted into the relevant chute. The sorter capacity and the number of chutes can be customized according to the customer’s requirements. In the loop (cyclical) design of the system, when the shipments reach the relevant chute, the carrier doors open, allowing the shipments to fall onto an inclined slide due to gravity, where they are then directed into a bag or cage. It is typically used for sorting shipments up to 2 kg/desi that are transported in bags. The sorting capacity of the sorter can be produced to handle up to 13,000 items/shipments per hour with dual feeding options. The number of sorting chutes is determined based on the dimensions of the processing area.
